Apparently they were fond of the word "boner" back then. I think it meant "mistake," or something.
I always assumed it meant bone-headed ness and/or a bone headed action.
Here's one origin of the term "pull a boner" going back to 1908, but doesn't get into where "bonehead" comes from. Got an Oxford English Dictionary?

Re: secret handshakes - you don't think they'd show the REAL secret handshake in a comic that just anyone could read, do you?
On to the Superpets! Yay! Some of the funniest stories in Legion history. But they reveal a lot about the legionnaires, who, for the most part, treat them with appalling callousness.
Man, there was an old issue of Detective comics where the Joker decided to base a crime spree on historical screwups. Batman, Robin and the Joker say the word 'boner' more than I would have thought possible.
Does it strike anyone else funny how Superboy can create a multitude of lifelike robots, yet by the 30th century the robot the 'BRILLIANT criminal scientist' makes looks like it was designed and constructed by 2nd graders? No wonder he died shorty after making it. He was probably 100 years old and seriously senile.
Probably the scientist didn't care what the robot looked like, he just wanted it functional.
The reason Superboy's robots are more human like is because he uses Kryptonian science to make them. Which brings up another reason Superman is a dick. He has access to all this futuristic tech. Flying cars, interplanetary spacecraft, robots, durable metals, phantom zone, etc, but he won't share any of it with the people of Earth.
